Hello everyone! I’m Nicolas, your favourite guide from Carboneras. Today I’m taking you to one of my favourite spots in Andalusia: Mojácar. This charming white village perched on top of a hill is simply one of the most beautiful in Spain, and believe me, I know what I’m talking about. 🌺🏡
Why visit Mojácar? 🤔
The authentic charm of a white village 🏘️✨
Mojácar, located just 90 km from Almería, offers breathtaking views with its whitewashed houses stretching across the hills. The atmosphere of this place is irresistibly reminiscent of Morocco or the Cyclades. Stroll through its narrow, flower-filled streets, and don’t forget your camera! 📸
A rich historical past 📜🏰
Mojácar holds fascinating traces of its past, where Romans, Arabs and Spaniards left their mark. From the Santa María Church, built on the site of an ancient mosque, to the ruins of the medieval castle, every corner has a story to tell.
Essential places in Mojácar 🌅
The must-sees in the village 📍
- Plaza Nueva: The perfect place to take in views of the Sierra Cabrera mountains and the Mediterranean.
- Iglesia Santa María: Built in the 16th century, this sturdy church is well worth a visit.
- Puerta de la Ciudad: The last vestige of the ancient Arab walls, a must-see for a symbolic entrance to the historic centre.
- Barrio del Arrabal: An old Jewish quarter with charming, cool streets ideal for a peaceful stroll.
Breathtaking panoramic views 🌄
- Mirador del Castillo: Climb to the top of the village and enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire coastline.
- Mirador de Plaza Nueva: Ideal for watching a magical sunset over the mountains.
Where to relax in Mojácar Playa? 🌊🏖️
The coastal area, Mojácar Playa, offers 17 km of magnificent beaches. Between unspoilt coves and serviced beaches, here are my favourites:
- Playa Macenas: Ideal for those seeking tranquillity and natural beauty.
- Playa El Cantal: Young atmosphere with bars, restaurants and water sports.
Personal tip: Don’t forget sunscreen and a good parasol! ☀️🕶️
Local gastronomy: what to try? 🍽️🍷
Enjoy these typical dishes in Mojácar:
- Gurullos: Small traditional pastries with rabbit or chicken.
- Ajo Colorao: A typical dish of potatoes, garlic and paprika.
- Migas: Simple but delicious, perfect after a day of exploring!
Finish your meal with a good local wine or a cold beer. 🍺🥘
My practical advice 🛠️💡
- When to go? Avoid July-August if you don’t like crowds. Spring and autumn are ideal.
- How to get around? Leave the car outside the historic centre, park on the outskirts and enjoy walking.
- Tech-Friendly: Use Google Maps to easily find coves and secret paths known only to locals.
Where to stay in Mojácar 🛏️🏡
In Mojácar Playa you will find a wide variety of hotels and apartments with views of the Mediterranean. For an authentic experience, choose small family hotels or holiday rentals to live like a true Andalusian.
Events not to be missed 🎉🎭
- Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos (June): A festive and colourful experience that recreates the history of Mojácar.
- Noche de las Velas (July): The streets illuminated by thousands of candles, a romantic and unique atmosphere.
My personal opinion 😉💬
What I like most about Mojácar is its preserved authenticity. The locals are very welcoming and every visitor is treated like a friend. Nicolas’ word: you will return delighted and eager to come back very soon. 💖
If you visit Carboneras, Mojácar is a must. I’ll be waiting for you with more recommendations and a good chat while enjoying the sunset on a terrace! 🌅🍹
