Because it&#8217;s a special place, <strong>where beauty endures despite the damage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udccd Where is Playa de la Galera?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is located about 2 km north of Carboneras, on the AL-5107 road towards Moj\u00e1car. It lies just before <strong>Playa del Algarrobico<\/strong>, due to the sadly famous hotel of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd To get there, take an <strong>unmarked road<\/strong> to the right, just before a sharp bend and <strong>before the abandoned hotel<\/strong>. A small garden of stacked stones creates a hippie-romantic atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Length<\/strong>: about <strong>1,000 metres<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Width<\/strong>: between 10 and 30 metres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Frequency of use<\/strong>: low to medium, even in summer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Type of user<\/strong>: quiet families, fishermen, discreet nudists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The water is clear, there is usually little surf, and the <strong>atmosphere is relaxed<\/strong>, even with the hotel as a backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfda\ufe0f The ghost of El Algarrobico<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have to talk about the elephant in the room. Or rather: <strong>about the illegal hotel of El Algarrobico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A concrete complex built in a protected area of the natural park. The project was halted, but the building is still there, <strong>abandoned for years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83c\udfd7\ufe0f A monument symbolising the ravages of uncontrolled urbanisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83c\udf31 But also a symbol of resistance: thanks to activists and associations, its construction was halted. The latest decision is said to have definitively ruled in favour of its demolition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcac My opinion: <strong>it must be demolished<\/strong> and dignity restored to this spectacular coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udc20 What is there to do at Playa de la Galera?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Snorkel in clean water<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the context, the water is <strong>clean and clear<\/strong>, ideal for snorkelling in the rocky areas. You will find small fish, seaweed and corners with underwater life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83e\uddf4 Bring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mask and snorkel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plastic sandals (for the stones at the entrance)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>Picnic with a view<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No bars, no music, no hurry. You come here with your rucksack, your parasol and your desire to rest. What you need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Water and food<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thick towel (the ground can be hard)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sunshade or cap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Photography and contemplation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The mixture of pure nature and urban ruin creates <strong>a unique atmosphere<\/strong>. The light is beautiful in the morning and at sunset, and the photos that come out of here are spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcf8 Tip: if you have a drone (and respect the rules), this place <strong>gives unforgettable images<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\ude97 Access and parking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Very easy to get to by car from Carboneras. But <strong>the road to the beach is not signposted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Look for a turn-off before the abandoned hotel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Park at the side of the road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also leave your car near the hotel (it&#8217;s not pretty, but it&#8217;s practical)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83c\udd7f\ufe0f Free parking, unguarded<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u267f Not suitable for people with reduced mobility (uneven terrain)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udc3e What about dogs?
